Dr. Edwin Zea Escamilla is joining back the Chair of Sustainable Construction in February.

 

Dr. Edwin Zea Escamilla is joining back the Chair of Sustainable Construction in February. Edwin wrote his dissertation at the chair of sustainable construction on the Development of simplified life cycle assessment methodology for construction materials and buildings outside of the European context through the use of GIS (2015). His work on the sustainability assessment of post-disaster reconstruction projects was awarded by the Journal Building and Environment in 2015.

After his time at ETHZ, Edwin was appointed as Head of Sustainable Building and Real Estate at the Centre for Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CCRS) at the University of Zürich. During this time, Edwin continued working on national and international research projects dealing with bio-based materials, circular economy, CO2 issues, and sustainable construction specially looking at challenges and opportunities in the real estate markets.

Edwin is member of the Bamboo Construction Task Force of the International Organization for Bamboo and Ratan and was appointed Topic Editor by the Journal Sustainability (MDPI) in 2019. Edwin is also co-organizer of the International Symposium on Bio-Based materials and structures.

Edwin holds a MSc in urban environmental management with emphasis in sustainable construction from Wageningen University (NL) and a diploma of architecture with emphasis in construction management from the Catholic University of Colombia (CO). Further education, in energy efficiency labels, GIS, project management and leadership skills round his profile.
