Shuyan Xiong joined the Chair of Sustainable Construction
Shuyan Xiong is a Ph.D student at the Chair of Sustainable Construction since January 2022.

From 2014 - 2018, she studied at McGill University and graduated with Distinction as a B.Eng. in Honours Mechanical Engineering. In 2021, she received her M.Sc. in Integrated Building Systems from the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich.
During her master studies, she worked as a lab assistant at DBT (ETHZ), specializing in polymer 3D-printing. Her master's thesis, entitled "Optimization of infill structures for high-performance 3D-printed building facades", was supervised by A/S Group and DBT, which developed her parametric modeling and performance analysis skills.
Prior to joining the chair, she worked as a MEP & LEED intern at Drees&Sommer and later as a solutions engineer at Arcplus Group in Shanghai, specializing in smart buildings and smart cities.
The focus of her research lies in the material sourcing description for digitally enabled circular economy, which aims to develop a systems approach for informing the design of sustainable housing with circular material flows in urban areas. Her interest in sustainable construction and future circular cities led her to join the chair and participate in the project.
The Chair of Sustainable Construction intends to ground sustainability in all disciplines involved in the built environment. For more information visit our Website.
