Mathieu has just joined the Chair of Sustainable Construction as an intern until September 2023.

We warmly welcome Mathieu Lecaille

Mathieu has just joined the Chair of Sustainable Construction as an intern until September 2023. He is a final year engineering student at Centrale Nantes, France in sustainable construction and low-tech engineering.

He is working on the valorisation of excavated soil into clay concrete.

The aim is to overcome the difficulty of soil variability by mapping the Swiss soil using cross-referenced data from soil maps and in-situ characterisation measurements thanks to the development of a simple and costless method. The identification of resources will serve as a data source for the development of the Shoshana knowledge platform. At the end of this mapping work, it will be possible to classify raw materials according to its potential for earth construction by different techniques and in particular the one of poured earth, which is being developed at the Chair and whose application will make it possible in the short term to overcome the current obstacles to the industrialization of the earth material.
