Formerly Franz Karl Weber Storage Building – Ecological Renewal

Abstract

The work discusses a renovation draft of the formerly Franz Karl Weber warehouse in Zürich. As the Canton of Zurich is following the goal to become a 2000-watt-society, we analyse the transformation of an old industry building into a complex of apartments with a food and energy production component. Integrated outdoor spaces and indispensable functions of a city benefit the new inhabitants of the industry area. Furthermore, we calculate the CO2-emissions resulting out of this intervention and show the reuse of building elements in the renovation.
