New Programme Coordinator of the CAS Regenerative Materials Dr. Arnaud Evrard
Dr. Arnaud Evrard is the new Programme Coordinator of the CAS ETH in Regenerative Materials – earth . bio-based . reused

Arnaud Evrard studied civil Engineering and Architecture at UCLouvain, in Belgium, followed by a PhD on the ability of Lime-Hemp mixtures to regulate heat and moisture transfer of indoor environment. During the following decade, he continued to work in the research group Architecture et Climat at UCLouvain with Prof. André De Herde on hydrothermal properties of Lime-Hemp Materials or straw-bales with earth plasters, focusing on the combined effect on energy use and comfort feeling. His research and teaching domains evolved to search partnership with industries (optimizing production processes, development of new building systems, LCA), or with public entities (mapping of existing building stock to define long term strategies for retrofitting and new buildings considering environmental and socio-economic impacts as well as heritage value). After this exiting academic activity, he decided to change radically his professional activity and moved to Vorarlberg (AT). He is now working at Lehm Ton Erde with Martin Rauch, mainly on the building sites, ramming earth walls and floors, but also working with lightweight earth mixtures, as well as plastering and various finishing (wax, casein, oil…).
In parallel, he is involved since its creation in the new Bachelor of Architecture in St.Gallen (CH), the ArchitekturWerkstatt, where he teaches the basics of hygrothermal Building Physics.
Since December 2020, he is “Programme Coordinator” of the CAS Regenerative Materials at the Chair of Sustainable Construction of the Institute of Construction & Infrastructure Management at ETH Zurich.
The Chair of Sustainable Construction intends to ground sustainability in all disciplines involved in the built environment. For more information visit our webpage.
