Research area

Her primary interest in materials science and digital fabrication led her to focus her work on an interdisciplinary project that aims to evaluate and develop a novel earth-based material compound suitable for an impact printing building process.

Julie Assunção is a Ph.D. student at the Chair of Sustainable Construction since mid of April 2021.

She graduated in Civil Engineering at Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo in 2020 in a dual-degree program with École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC) in which she specialized in Materials Science for Sustainable Construction.

With a particular interest in sustainable materials in the construction industry, she participated in several research projects aimed at reducing the thickness of structural components made in concrete, working together with the University of São Paulo and Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona.

In Spring/Summer 2020, she did her Master’s Thesis “Fabrication Strategies for Funicular Floors 3D-Printed Concrete” at the Block Research Group ETH, focusing on constraints and opportunities of the 3D printing technology. To support her studies, she was awarded a Saint Gobain Excellence Scholarship by the French Company Saint Gobain Research.
