Welcome Nikhil Reddy Kunati

Nikhil Reddy Kunati is a PhD student at the Chair of Sustainable Construction since March 2024.

Nikhil is originally from Hyderabad, a city in the southern part of India. In 2019, he graduated in Civil Engineering from Mahindra École Centrale, a joint collaborative institute between Centrale Supélec (Paris) and Mahindra Group (India). He then worked for 2 years in the cleantech and pharmaceutical sectors before starting his joint master’s degree in industrial Ecology at Leiden University and TU Delft in the Netherlands.

During the period of his masters, Nikhil developed his knowledge and interests, particularly in the field of CO2 capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), through his student consultant experience at Witteveen and Bos and his thesis research on ex-ante techno-economic and environmental assessment of CO2-based carbon nanomaterial production. He also attempted to develop his thesis research in the form of a startup and won several startup competitions, such as Falling Walls Lab, TU Delft Impact Contest, and Philips Innovation Award. Detailed research led to the realisation that it was not economically and environmentally viable.

However, Nikhil intends to apply his insightful learnings from his startup experience in his PhD research on Sustainability assessment of CO2 capture and Use in Value-added construction products. His PhD research is part of EU Horizon funded Carbon4Minerals project, which involves a consortium of several notable organisations such as ArcelorMittal, Heidelberg Cements, SINTEF, and RWTH Aachen University, among several others.

His main research interests include:
– CCUS
– Industrial Symbiosis
– Techno-Economic and Life Cycle Assessments
– Low Carbon Construction
– Multi Criteria Decision Analysis

The chair of Sustainable Construction intends to embed sustainability in all aspects of the built environment. For more information, please visit our website.
